The 2013 Best of the Basin BBQ Championship was a success. 59 teams competed! Thanks to all the participants, sponsors, donors, staff and volunteers who made it all come together. When we know the dates and plans for 2014, we'll post it to this website.

On March 22 and 23, 2013 the Boys and Girls Clubs of Midland will host our first annual signature event, The Best of the Basin BBQ Championship, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society which is the largest barbeque sanctioning body in the United States.
Our partnership with the KCBS and their 15,000 society members across the country will give our region’s best cooks an opportunity to show the country what West Texas has to offer in a BBQ competition against teams from far and wide and coast to coast. This event is the very first KCBS sanctioned contest EVER to be held in West Texas. Teams and sponsors will have the opportunity to meet and compete against cooks from the hit show BBQ Pitmasters as well as a celebrity chef who will be cooking up something delicious for our sponsors!
We look forward to developing the Best of the Basin BBQ Championship for our community. Scharbauer Sports Complex (between the football and baseball fields) will be our quality venue with plenty of space to grow in the future and the amenities required to host such an event. Sponsors and guests will also be involved in the event, and this is our chance to step up our exposure while offering a fun event with some friendly competition stirred with a hint of West Texas hospitality.
We will be hosting a Friday Night Ribeye Throwdown and judging, with Saturday having the primary competition in the BBQ categories of Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Pork and People’s Choice.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Midland plays a crucial role in the community by impacting the lives of more than 700 school age children every year by offering a safe and positive place for kids. To keep our membership at only $10 a year, we need strong community support. Our clubs bring meaning, inspiration, guidance and stability to club members through programs and services offered to those who need us the most, where they need us the most. We are changing the odds for at-risk children every day!
